Vele tientallen muzikanten, clowns, theatergroepen enzovoort traden er op waarbij tenten en boten als decor konden dienen. Tot de bekende optredende theatergroepen behoorde Dogtroep.
Gaandeweg is er kruisbestuiving ontstaan waardoor ook theaterfestival Oerol is ontsproten.
