The data

The whole published archive as files, rebuilt every night. A database export is a better answer than a crawl, and this is it.

Last reviewed 17 September 2026

What is in it

The current published revision of every published record, one JSON Lines file per kind — traditions, places, artists, communities, groups, instruments, materials, categories, tags — plus the edges between them, the sources those records cite, the citations that tie a source to a record, and a manifest naming every file with its row count and a checksum.

Never in it: accounts and anything about a person who edits; the audit log; reader counts and every visitor signal; unpublished revisions, drafts and held pages; anything taken down; image files. A photograph’s credit, licence and source URL are data; its pixels belong to the photographer.

Get it

Last rebuilt 2026-10-04. The day’s folder, dump/2026-10-04/, is the fixed release; dump/latest/ is rewritten every night.

Licence

Text is CC BY-SA 4.0: use it, change it, credit folkroom and share alike. Sources are described, not reproduced; each carries whatever licence its publisher states. Images are metadata only here, and each photograph is licensed individually on its own page. Read copyright and reuse before you republish.

The shape

Every record file has one object per line with id, type, slug, url, title, summary, body (the page’s content blocks), media (metadata), revision and updatedAt. edges.jsonl has from, to, type and properties, both ends inside the dump. citations.jsonl ties an entity to a source with an optional note; sources.jsonl describes each source. manifest.json carries the schema version — it changes when a shape does — the generation time, counts, and a sha256 per file.

One real row, as it is tonight (body and media shortened here):

Citing it

Cite the release you read, never latest. The line, as it stands tonight:

folkroom. The published archive, release 2026-10-04 (dump/2026-10-04/, sha256 checksums in manifest.json). https://folkroom.org/data. Text CC BY-SA 4.0.

The dated folder is never rewritten, and the manifest inside it carries a sha256 for every file, so a reader can prove they hold what folkroom published on that day. A permanent identifier per release is the next step and is not here yet.
