The tradition & historical record

1 min read · 1 source

Tatreez arranges geometric cypress trees, eight-pointed stars, palm fronds, and bird motifs across chest panels (qabbeh), side gores (benayeq), and sleeves, traditionally stitched over waste-canvas threads pulled out upon completion. 1

Inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List in 2021, motif layouts and silk colourways distinguish village origins across Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem, Jaffa, and Gaza. 1
