Simmering pure castor oil in forest clearings near Nirona village in Kutch, Gujarat for forty-eight hours until it polymerises into viscous rogan gel, Abdul Gafur Khatri blends mineral pigments on stone slabs and trails hair-thin threads from a six-inch iron rod onto fabric without metal ever touching cloth. 1

When his household stood as the sole surviving Rogan workshop in India, he opened instruction beyond male family lines to hundreds of village women, receiving the Shilp Guru citation and the Padma Shri (2019). 1
