Working in Ganjad village of Dahanu taluka, Palghar district, Maharashtra, Jivya Soma Mashe extended sacred lagna chauk wedding-square wall geometry—built from triangles, circles, and squares in pounded white rice paste over ochre and cow-dung wash—onto permanent cloth and paper surfaces. 1

His spiraling tarpa harvest-dance circles, ant-hill ecosystems, and village parables earned India's National Award for Tribal Art (1976), the Netherlands' Prince Claus Award (2002), and the Padma Shri (2011). 1
