Educated under Nandalal Bose and Benode Behari Mukherjee at Santiniketan and in Far Eastern brush disciplines at Tokyo University of the Arts, Kripal Singh Shekhawat assumed leadership of Jaipur's Sawai Ram Singh Shilp Kala Mandir when fewer than half a dozen ageing quartz-potters survived. 1

Reformulating the fragile ground-quartz, raw glaze-glass, multani mitti, and katira-gum body while introducing cobalt-and-turquoise peacocks, camel caravans, and twenty-five new vessel profiles, he received the National Award (1967), Padma Shri (1974), and Shilp Guru (2002). 1
