Working from nineteenth-century Naval Kishore Press lithographs of the forty-six-volume Tilism-e-Hoshruba in Lucknow and New Delhi, Mahmood Farooqui revived the extinct acoustic stagecraft of Urdu Dastangoi—two white-clad dastangos seated on a masnad conjuring sorcerers, trickster Amr Ayyar, and courtly worlds solely through voice. 1

Training a nationwide cohort of contemporary Urdu storytellers, he received the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2010. 1
