Trained within the royal Seraikela akhada tradition along the Kharkai river and serving for decades as principal guru of the Government Seraikela Chhau Dance Centre, Makar Dhwaj Darogha preserved understated, lyrical masked solos including Ratri (Night), Mayura (Peacock), and Chandrabhaga. 1

Where Purulia Chhau emphasises external acrobatics, Darogha transmitted Seraikela's subtle torso inflections and sword-exercise footwork, earning the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Padma Shri (2011). 1
