Carrying forward five centuries of Bahmani and Barid Shahi metallurgical craft in Bidar, northern Karnataka, Shah Rashid Ahmed Quadri chisels hair-thin undercuts into cast 16:1 zinc-copper vessels before hammering pure silver wire (tarakashi) and sheet (teh-nishan) flush with the surface. 1

Immersed in a boiling slurry of ammonium chloride and alkaline soil gathered solely from unlit inner vaults of Bidar Fort, the alloy turns velvety matte black while silver gleams untouched, earning him the Shilp Guru title and Padma Shri (2023). 1
