Archival note & context

Nadaswaram is attested in the primary archival record for Bhuta Kola in Tulu Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, India.

Across Tulu Nadu, village communities gather at sacred groves (sana) from dusk till dawn for Bhuta Kola (Daiva Nema), honouring guardian spirits such as Panjurli, Jumadi, and Koragajja with communal rice and coconut offerings.

Performers from the Nalike, Parava, and Pambada communities sing the ancient Tulu paddana genealogies while applying yellow haridra pigment and donning the towering coconut-frond ani arch.
