Celebrated each April across the Brahmaputra Valley at the Assamese New Year (Bohag Bihu), young men and women wearing golden muga silk mekhela chador and red-and-white gamosa cloths dance in open fields. [1]

First given royal patronage at the Ahom pavilion of Rang Ghar in Sivasagar under King Rudra Singha circa 1694. [2]
