The tradition & historical record

1 min read · 1 source

Artisans model a sun-dried river-clay and rice-husk core, wrap it in fine extruded threads of beeswax mixed with sal-tree dammar resin (dhuna), and encase the wax sculpture in outer clay moulds fitted with an integral crucible cup. 1

Fired in subterranean wood-and-charcoal kilns, molten scrap brass flows into the vaporized wax cavity; each clay mould is broken open once, making every casting unique. 1
