The tradition & historical record

1 min read · 1 source

Concentrated on Murano since the Venetian Republic's 1291 furnace decree, maestro glassmakers gather molten silica-soda-lime glass on iron blowpipes (canna da soffio) to execute filigrana twisted-cane vessels, lattimo milk glass, and millefiori mosaic canes. 1

The allied art of Venetian glass beads (perle di vetro) worked at flame torches and blown canes was inscribed by UNESCO in 2020. 1
