The tradition & historical record

1 min read · 1 source

Painted exclusively by Joshi Chitrakar artists of Shahpura and Bhilwara on hand-spun khadi canvas, the phad scroll functions as a portable temple mapping the entire heroic life of fourteenth-century folk deity Pabuji. 1

From dusk to dawn, the Bhopa plays the horsehair ravanahatha spike-fiddle while the Bhopi lifts an oil lamp to illuminate each painted episode as they sing it. 1
