Archival note & context

Grana cochineal (Dactylopius coccus) is attested in the primary archival record for Zapotec Pedal-Loom Weaving in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico.

In the Zapotec valley town of Teotitlán del Valle, family workshops card Sierra Juárez churro wool by hand and dye skeins in earthen vats of añil indigo and grana cochineal harvested from nopal cacti.

Recorded in the archive with primary workshop documentation; awaiting a formal dated census to assign a four-lamp condition mark.
