The tradition & historical record

1 min read · 1 source

Two layers of cotton cloth are laminated with boiled tamarind-seed paste and burnished with river pebbles and chalk into a leathery patta surface before Chitrakar artists paint Jagannath temple triad icons and Krishnalila cycles enclosed within double floral borders. 1

Colours derive strictly from conch-shell white, hingula cinnabar red, haritala orpiment yellow, lampblack, and stone blue. 1
